Spark and Ignition (3)

The power plant of this high voltage is “Ignition coil” of the system. Normally the ignition coil is covered by engine cover, therefore, you cannot easily see the coil. The ignition coil is small version of voltage transformer which you can find easily on the street to convert electric voltage which comes from power plant. The primary coil has windings of 200 or 300 times and the secondary coil has 20,000 to 30,000 times of windings which is 100 times more than that of primary coil windings.

In a given coil which a certain voltage is implied, if you cut the current all of sudden, the coil induce 10 times more voltage in the coil. (This is called “Self Induction”) The principle of this induction is based on the effect of magnetic field movement. The battery in the vehicle can only supply 12 volts but if we can arrange a proper circuit , we can earn 200 volts of electricity for short moment.

If the coil has the windings on the core laminates, and the other coil winding is on the same core laminates the two coil make so called “Electric Induction” each other. (This is called “Mutual Induction”). Means the voltage on the each winding will have the proportional value based of the ration of windings. If the windings of secondary coil is 100 times more that those of primary coil, then, the induced voltage at the secondary coil will be 100 times high that that of primary coil.
