Automotive Production by OEM
The term of “Big-3” is well known term in automotive industry. The US manufacturers General Motors, Ford and Chrysler have played a major role for a long time in history, nobody can deny this truth. Later, Japanese Toyota has joined this league and still playes the role quite well.
Since the last financial crisis in 2007 and 2008 the landscape of automotive industry has changed quite a lot as seen in the graph below. GM and Toyota both of them has experienced a big decrease of their revenue and now (from 2012) recovering. German OEM VW has also experienced small negative influence from the crisis but not much like US competitors. The company has expanded their weight through M&A, and they have the aim to be the number one automotive OEM in 2018. One thing very special in the graph is the movement of Korean OEM Hyundai, the growth pattern of Hyundai has never shown “nose-down”, they have been always “up”. Perhaps this year 2014 they will reach very close to 8 million vehicles sales though the world.
